State Schools of Character Award Illinois and Missouri are two of 30 states to give State Schools of Character (SSOC) awards. Please click here for the latest CEP updates regarding the Dec. 3, 2012 application deadline. The awards are prerequisite to CEP's National School of Character Award. Beginning in 2011, the goal of the National Schools of Character (NSOC)awards program is to recognize all schools and districts that demonstrate an exemplary level of implementation of Character Education Partnership's 2010 Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education. The move is from competition to meeting a mastery standard and is an achievable path to Excellence for all. The NSOC designation is renewable after five years. The awards recognize the level of excellence schools and districts have achieved in the Eleven Principles of Effective Character Educationof Effective Character Education. These principles, the National Standard for Character Education, guide the process of creating a culture based on the community’s shared values.The Purpose of the Award and Why People Should Apply.
